The brief
Urban Quarter Quartet is four buildings read as one ensemble, so the brief's central problem was rhythm — proving the modular balcony pattern reads as intentional repetition, not four identical blocks. Facade studies existed as their own deliverable specifically to isolate that rhythm and show it working at different times of day.
The green landscape between the buildings had to carry real weight in the composition — it's what keeps four geometric volumes from reading as a wall.
Light and geometry
We shot the key exterior at a low, raking sun that turns the modular balconies into a genuine light-and-shadow pattern across the facade — the geometry does the work, no extra graphic treatment needed. Midday light was avoided everywhere; it flattens exactly the rhythm the brief was built around.
The facade studies use a tighter, more clinical framing than the hero exterior — closer to elevation than perspective — so the pattern itself, not the surrounding site, is what's being evaluated.
